There is a long route from Mumbai to Nagpur, it takes approx 18 hours of travel from Mumbai to Nagpur. To reduce the traveling time and improve the connectivity from Mumbai to Nagpur for further economic growth, the Maharastra government proposed an expressway project in 2015, which was approved. The land occupied started in 2017, and in December 2018 it was founded by Indian prime minister Mr. Narendra Modi.
The government of Maharashtra is building the Samruddhi Mahamarg from Mumbai to Nagpur. It will reduce the travel time from Mumbai to Nagpur. Before this expressway, it took at least 18 hours to reach Nagpur from Mumbai. The Samruddhi Mahamarg or Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Expressway is officially known as “Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samridhi Mahamarg”, It is a 701km long 6-lane expressway. 701 km long Mumbai- Nagpur Expressway will pass through 10 Major districts- Nagpur, Amravati, Washim, Wardha, Buldana, Aurangabad, Jalna, Nasik, Ahmednagar, and Thane. And an additional fourteen districts namely Chandrapur, Bhandara, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Yavatmal, Akola, Hingoli, Parbhani, Nanded, Beed, Dhule, Jalgaon, Palghar, and Raigad will be connected by the Samruddhi Mahamarg. This expressway is being built by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). This project’s main aim is to boost economic growth in the rural area of this state. And it will work as a gateway for national and international markets. It is well connected with the Jawarharlal Nehru Port Trust(JNPT) Mumbai and Multimodal International Hub Airport (MSRDC) Nagpur.
PM Modi Inaugurates Mumbai Nagpur Expressway:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday 11 December 2022 came to Nagpur at Waiphal Toll to Inaugurate the 520-km-long phase-1 will be open to the public now from Nagpur to Shirdi of the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg in Maharashtra. The remaining expressway work is under construction. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has been working day and night to complete it till 2023. The second Phase Shirdi to Mumbai will inaugurate in June 2023.

New Township Development:
The Government of Maharashtra has authorized MSRDC to act as the New Town Development Authority to venture into the long-term development of 19 new towns at strategic nodes, which is also coined as ‘Krushi Samruddhi Nagar’. Every township developed under the initiative of Krushi Samruddhi Nagar will be built on a land area of approximately 1000-1500 hectares. There are 19 new townships that will be developed at a distance of 30 to 40 km from each other. This township will be developed in two phases, the First phase has seven townships and the Second phase has eleven townships. The developmental objective proposing these new towns is to encourage the self-employment potential of the regional population through their primitive occupation i.e., agriculture or agro-related businesses. The new townships will be easily accessible from main roads, feeder roads, and national or state highways intersecting the Samruddhi Expressway through the public transport system.
